With people's attention spans shortening with every passing day and homogenisation fast wiping out indigenous cultures thrusting every new generation being thrust further and further afield from its ethnic roots, the old ways are under threat of being forgotten.
Most oral cultures remained so mostly on account of either a choice not to, or an inability to, write. Even where the reason for not writing may be argued to being closer to the need to keep certain knowledge sacred, our modern times have changed everything.
The recording of knowledge must be systematised. Indigenous communities' traditions and lore must be preserved in storage external to our fragile brains while there are still some among us who remember the truth of the old ways. Ancestral seats must be sat upon by those deemed worthy and right by the ancestors of the people being ruled over in order for our physical communities to be preserved and to thrive.
And in this age of high technology, in which African Customary and Traditional Institutions in particular run the risk of disappearing, especially in view of the current paradigm that deems something as not existing or having value if it is not present in the digital space that today constitutes the public square of consensual reality, it is especially vital that the memory of our indigenous communities is preserved in the form relevant in and expressive of the norms of our times.
